Mount Carmel English Baptist Church was founded in 1874 when certain members of the sister Welsh Baptist Church at Tonyfelin, Caerphilly (established in 1784) had felt the need of an English Baptist cause in Caerphilly. They were supported by Dr Davies, the famous blind preacher from Swansea and the project was placed in the hands of Rev Alfred Tilley of Tredegarville, Cardiff and the Rev W Morgan of Maesycwmmer. Mount Carmel English Baptist Church was eventually formed in 1874, the word “Engish” being removed from the church title some twenty years ago.
September 21st 2014 marked the 140th Anniversary of our church, and the joyous celebration which ensued highlighted the affection and esteem in which our church is held. Yes, we are immensely proud of the history of our church.
